White Roses

You don't have to be an expert gardener to have white roses blooming in your garden. No matter what the climate or soil conditions, roses are one type of plant that tend to thrive. Even if you only use the basics of good soil, sunshine and plenty of water, you can have roses of every color blooming outdoors.

When you plant a rose bush, whether it is white or another color, you have to choose a location where it will receive at least six hours of direct sunlight every day. The morning sunshine is the best. The hole you dig should be at least two feet by two feet so that the roots have ample room to expand. You can add potting soil or compost to the hole before you set in the rose. Then you have to be diligent by watering the roses weekly for several weeks after the initial planting.

When the roses start to leaf out in the spring, you should fertilize the soil. This is something you should do on a regular basis until the time of the first frost. Once you notice dead blooms, you should remove them because this spurs new growth and continued blooming. Roses also need to be pruned at least once a year, after the first flowers bloom.

If you have rose bushes in your garden for many years, pruning them early in spring will remove all the damage of the winter. In colder climates, you can also do the pruning just after the first frost to help minimize the damage that the snow and ice may cause.

You also need to plant the roses where they will get lots of air. If the area is enclosed too much, the roses will not flourish and can develop fungal diseases. Mulching can also reduce stress on the roses because it helps the soil to hold the moisture, if you live in a warm climate.

You do need to look after your roses, but they don't require a lot of gardening.
