Fresh Roses
When we think of roses, we automatically think of a florist, but that is not the only place you can
get fresh roses. They can come right from your own backyard. Roses are not that difficult to
grow and with a little care, you can have all the roses you want.
There are some things you should know about cutting roses. The best time to cut them is after
three in the afternoon, as this is when they have the most food reserve. This way they have better
staying power when you place them in your vase inside your home.
When you're cutting roses, always cut the ones that have buds that are partially open. This way,
when you bring them inside, they will last longer and when they do open you will get the full
fragrance that comes from them. When you are cutting make sure you use clean, sharp pruners
so you won't damage your rose bush. Always leave about three leaves on the stem so it can
continue to feed the rose.
Don't place any leaves below the water line in your vase as this will promote rotting and will
kill your roses. Get your roses to water as soon as possible. A good idea is to take a bucket of
water with you before you start cutting. After the roses are taken from the bush and you bring
them inside, cut the stems again while holding the rose and stem under water. This will prevent
the stem from taking in air and causing the stem to not be able to drink.
When you place your roses in the vase, you have to add a preservative. This can be purchased at
the florist or if you don't have any, add a spoonful of sugar. It will do the same work as the
preservative and you can even add a squeeze of lemon with the sugar. Try and change your water
on a daily basis because this will give you fresh roses longer. Don't let your water get dirty or
your roses won't stay fresh for long. Don't place them in direct sunlight or near any heat source,
as they will wither faster. Keep them in a cool place.
