Fall Flowers
Every fall we are in awe of the rich beautiful colors that surround us by nature, the reds, browns,
and golds that fall from the trees. This is also the time for fall flowers and you can do your own
masterpiece with a little work. Everyone knows that spring flowers herald the coming of warm,
long lazy days, but if we prepare in the fall we can enhance spring's blooms.
Some bulbs need the dormant cold winter hand to flower in the spring, so fall is the time to get
ready for spring. If you are planting bulbs in the fall, always make sure they are in tip top shape
to begin with. Make sure they are blemish free and remember the larger the bulb you plant in the
fall the larger the bloom will be in the spring. The bulb is the cocoon for the flower that will
come from it. The bulb holds everything the flower needs to grow - that is everything except
water.
The Dahlia is one of the flowers that grow from a tuber. It is a flower that blooms from late
summer until the first frost of the coming winter. The flowers that these bulbs produce are
magnificent. From button size to dinner plate size, they can make a statement like no other
flower. The color too is unusual. You would be hard pressed to find a solid blue color in them,
but what you will find are the color of every different color of blue that you can imagine. These
flowers are easy to plant and very easy to care for and will do you well year after year. All they
require is to be taken from the ground before winter finally sets in. This is very little work to do
for the pleasure you will receive watching them bloom.
There are some other flowers that you can plant in the fall such as Colchicum or the Saffron
Crocus, but none that will give you the total satisfaction that the Dahlia will give you. If you
want to plant them then go ahead. When spring arrives it never hurts to have has much color as
you can get.
