Christmas Flowers

There are many favorite Christmas flowers, but the flower that is associated with Christmas the most is the Poinsettia. Everyone welcomes this flower as a gift or buys it for their home. However, as the twelve days of Christmas passes so does the beautiful Poinsettia, as its beautiful red leaves wither and die. But did you know that you can keep your poinsettia to bloom another day?

A poinsettia can be kept all year around if care is taken to encourage it to stay healthy. The first and most important thing you have to do is keep the flower in a sunny location. To transplant your flower you have to use a good potting soil and a pot that is a bit larger than the one it came in. If you don't have a fancy pot, transplant it in a plastic container and place it in a wicker basket or put color designs on your plastic container to liven it up. Don't forget to put food spikes in the container, but only use the amount specified on the package.

Place the plant away from drafts in a sunny window and water the flower about once a week. Be careful not to give it to much water and make sure you let the soil dry out a little before watering again. If you find that your plant is losing too many leaves, try to move it to different sunny locations until you find the one it is happy with.

Some tips to having a happy poinsettia is that when you transplant it, don't have the soil any higher in the pot than it was in the original pot. Sometimes they will bloom again, but try not to encourage this as it kills most of the plant. If you're satisfied with the beautiful green it produces year after yea,r then you have a plant that will not only give you beauty but will serve as a reminder of a past Christmas or the special person that gave it to you inn the first place and this is not such a bad thing, is it?
