African Flowers

The easiest plants to ever take care of are African flowers, especially the African violet. This plant is one of the sturdiest growing plants that will bloom despite the care or lack of care you give it, although it does need some basic care. This plant does prefer a lot of light so you do have to place it in a window or provide at least 8 hours of artificial light each day. When you water this plant make sure you do not spill water onto its leaves, as it tends to make them brown and the soil should be kept moist. If you're using a fertilizer, make sure it is made for African violets and follow the instructions.

African violets will tolerate most humidity levels, but never spray the plant itself as the leaves don't like to be wet and they do prefer warm temperatures, usually above 60 degrees F. When it turns warm in the summer it is not a good idea to place your plant outside. It doesn't like unfiltered light, plus the rain would not be a good environment for your plant to be in. If you're into transplanting, you can transplant a leaf of an African violet, but maybe it would be simpler buying another one, maybe of a different color. If you do transplant African violets, they have to be planted in a soilless rooting mixture. Soil for African violets can be purchased, which should keep them healthy and growing for you. However, most do just fine in a regular house potting soil. Try not to repot a root bound African violet, as this is when they are at their best and will only bloom well in this condition. If you find that you are losing leaves, remove them from the pot right away.

Over all, the African violet can prove to be one of the easiest flowers to have in your home. It will add beauty to an empty corner or dress up a windowsill and all it asks for is to be kept moist and let grow. The rewards you will get from caring for this plant will be well worth the price you pay when you buy it.
